Some moments are etched in wrestling history. For me, two of the most memorable moments are Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III and Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI. The Rock versus John Cena this year will be one of those moments. Too many are concerned with the “build” of the feud but the thing that will matter is when they are face to face on the “Grandest Stage of All.” What would it have been like if we had to sit week after week of Hogan and Andre cutting promos on each other? Indeed it was a different age of wrestling. The characters sold the storyline and not the other way around.

What the Funk? Brodus Clay Missing Part II
Brodus Clay is apparently missing in action again. Clay debuted on Raw after several stalled and delayed returns that lasted well into the New Year with an unbelievable Funkasaurus gimmick. I predicted that he would return as a monster heel and destroy everyone in sight, however, I quickly hopped on team Funkasaurus when I saw Clay’s personality shine through. And the added plus of having Naomi back on TV.
Clay has been off TV for some weeks now and it might appear that the Funkasaurus has quickly become extinct. There have been varying rumors that Vince McMahon felt that Brodus Clay was “too green” in the ring and pulled him from TV, even having one of his matches edited out of Smackdown. I don’t personally buy this one as Clay had plenty of time to be evaluated in FCW, NXT, and as Alberto Del Rio’s lackey on Raw. Another rumor was that he was too unsafe in the ring to work with. Clay vaguely addressed the rumors on twitter.

Chris Brown responds to CM Punk
CM Punk takes to Twitter to try to gain some measure of mainstream publicity by attacking Chris Brown’s and his 8 MILLION plus followers, over something that’s happened years ago (Chris Brown’s pre-Grammy attack on Rihanna). Chris Brown took the bait however, and entertained Punk by engaging in the Twitter beef. It’s interesting that Punk would “claim” to be standing up for women when he’s rumored to be quite the womanizer himself.

NBA's dunk contest a Slam in the Toilet
If you were watching TNT last night to see an exciting Slam Dunk contest, I hope you were watching on video tape. This year’s Sprite Slam Dunk contest featured four virtual unknowns, doing 3 repetitive dunks (dunking over Kevin Hart, dunking over P. Diddy, dunking over a teammate, i.e.). I was pulling for Paul George of the Indiana Pacers, who dunked with the lights off in a glow-in-the-dark jersey.
The Sprite Slam Dunk contest is usually the main event of all star Saturday. This year was a snooze fest. For the first the fans got to vote for the winner by twitter, texts, and by phone. Over 3 million votes were cast.
The winner: “the Human Pogo Stick” Jeremy Evans; however, we all lost. Perhaps Sir Charles Barkley said it best, “I’m saying it here, I’m saying it now. All the superstars need to get up off their butts and get back into the Slam Dunk contest. When I was young, I wanted to see Dominique versus Jordan…”
