There are only 4 announced matches for tonight’s Royal Rumble. So one can expect plenty of surprises and last minute addition. I’m expecting a 2 minutes Diva’s match. Perhaps another Tamina vs. Natalya squash match. Here are my predictions.
· CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler (John Laurinaitis guest referee)
Should be plenty of shenanigans with this one. I’m sure David Otunga is going to get involved somehow. Triple H returning tomorrow to possibly “fire” Laurinaitis based on his performance tonight adds a little intrigue to the match. CM Punk should win this one to end the Ziggler feud, and either continue with Laurinaitis and Triple H storyline or move on to a possible WrestleMania challenger.
· Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show vs. Mark Henry (steel cage match)
I hate to say it, but Daniel Bryan has been on a roll as his heel turn is well past 100%. He’s never been a likable character, so this works well for him. There’s no word on the severity of Mark Henry’s injury so not sure about how that’s going to play into the match. Bryan should walk out of the PPV tonight still World Heavyweight Champion, but it’s likely that he will not being going into Wrestlemania still champion.
· John Cena vs. Kane
This is Kane’s first official match since returning to television and I don’t expect Kane to lose. This feud has been vague and all over the place. Hopefully something shocking and unexpected happens to inject a little life into this storyline. Kane should pick up the win to continue the feud into the Elimination Chamber.
· 30 Man Royal Rumble Match
Seems like I’m in the minority here, but I enjoyed the 40 man Rumble match. The two names being thrown about the most as winner is Randy Orton (in his hometown) and Chris Jericho; neither of whom ‘need’ a Rumble win to earn a title match at WM. It doesn’t make since for Jericho to not make a HUGE impact in this match however. To me, the Royal Rumble is never about who actually wins it, but just sitting back, enjoying the action, anticipation of the next entrant, and the surprise returns!
